How to get to your favorites

Four steps, and you will know whether something is really missing or you were just looking in the wrong place.

• Open your profile

  Tap your profile picture in the bottom right. Everything you saved belongs to that one account and to no other.

• Tap the bookmark icon

  There is a row of small icons above your own videos. The bookmark is your saves, the heart is your likes. People mix those two up constantly.

• Move through the favorites tabs

  Inside, videos, sounds, hashtags and effects are kept apart. Depending on your region there are tabs for books or films too. If you are looking for a video you have to be in the video tab, otherwise you are staring at a perfectly correct empty list.

• If the icon is not there

  Some versions hide the entry point in the menu at the top right. Look for an item about favorites or saved content there. If you find nothing at all, updating the app helps, because the layout differs between versions.

Favorites, likes, collections and downloads are four different things

Most “my favorites are gone” moments are really a mix-up between these four.

• Favorites

  That is the bookmark. You mark someone else's video for later, it stays linked to the original, and it is your private shelf.

• Likes

  The heart is feedback for the person who made the video. As a filing system it is close to useless: it holds everything you ever thought was nice, and you cannot create folders in it.

• Collections

  Collections are folders inside your favorites. They sort, they do not copy. Delete a collection and the videos are usually still in your general favorites list.

• Saved to your phone

  A download lands in your camera roll as a video file. No link, no title, no account behind it. If you are trying to remember the name of the restaurant, your camera roll gives you exactly nothing.

When your favorites really are gone

• You are in the wrong account

  Second account, old account, the one tied to your old number. Favorites belong to the account, not the phone. Switch through every profile you are logged into. That solves it surprisingly often.

• An update moved the entry point

  TikTok rearranges the profile view regularly. Then the bookmark suddenly sits behind the menu instead of above your videos. Your stuff is there, the route to it is new.

• The video does not exist any more

  The person deleted it, made it private or closed their account. Sometimes TikTok removed it. A favorite is a pointer to the original, not a copy. When the original goes, the entry goes with it.

• The collection is gone, the videos are not

  A deleted or renamed collection looks suspiciously like data loss. Check your general favorites list first. They are often all still sitting there.

• The app is just being weird

  If nothing loads at all and even the save button stops responding, people report that logging out, reinstalling the app and logging back in fixes it. Request your data export first, so you have it in writing what TikTok stores for your account.

The find was good, the filing is the problem

Honestly, a perfectly sorted favorites list does not help much if you only ever open it to rewatch videos. The reason you saved something is written down nowhere. Four weeks later, “I want to go there” has turned into a thumbnail with a plate on it.

So it pays off to pull the two or three finds a week you actually mean out of TikTok. The rest can stay comfortably inside TikTok.

What Swiva cannot do here

If a video is deleted later, the link will stop working at some point. Your title, your note and the list stay. For places, keep checking opening hours and prices yourself. TikTok is inspiration, not a directory.
