How to reach your saves on a laptop

• Sign in on the browser

  Open instagram.com and sign in with the account you saved from. With two accounts, that is exactly where it goes wrong most often.

• Open your profile and the saved area

  The area sits with your profile. Depending on the version it is called Saved or hides behind the settings icon. The web layout changes more often than the app does.

• Click through collections, do not rebuild them

  Collections you already created can normally be opened and browsed in a browser. Creating, renaming or moving posts between them belongs in the app, according to Instagram.

• Copy links instead of saving

  What does work well on the web: open a post, copy the link and put it somewhere else. That is how most people get through trip planning.

What does not work on a computer

• Managing collections

  Creating, renaming, deleting, sorting: according to Instagram, that belongs in the app. If you are hunting for something on the web and cannot find it, it is usually not your fault.

• Collaborative collections

  They simply do not exist on the web. You cannot create them and you cannot view them. If you collect together, the laptop is out.

• Searching properly

  There is no real full text search across your saves. Past a few hundred posts you scroll, and you scroll a lot.

• Exporting anything

  There is no button that hands you your collection as a list. The data request gives you an export, but it is raw material rather than a travel plan.

Why you want the laptop in the first place

Usually it is not about viewing at all. You want to plan. Put five cafés side by side, see which ones sit in which district, look at it with someone else at the same time. Switching apps on your phone, screenshotting, throwing a link in a chat and then hunting for all of it again, that is the actual pain.

So the workaround that actually works is usually the same one: keep saving on your phone, but move the things you really mean into a list you can also open on a big screen. In Swiva you share the post over while you are out and open the list in a browser later, when you have time and a keyboard.
