Saved Instagram post not loading or showing as a grey tile

Why will a saved Instagram post not load any more?
Because a save is only a pointer to the original post, not a copy. If the post is deleted, made private, removed with the account or blocked in your region, all that is left on your side is a blank tile. Instagram keeps nothing on your behalf.
Sometimes it is just a loading glitch though. Before you write it off, the short checklist below is worth running. If nothing works after that, the post is gone at the source and nobody can reach it any more.
The checklist before you give up
Test other posts
If exactly one tile is grey and everything else loads fine, it is not a connection problem. Then it is the post.
Restart the app and check your connection
Sounds obvious, but it clears a decent share of cases. Instagram handles a bad connection with very little grace.
Cross-check in a browser
Open the same collection at instagram.com. If the post is there, it was the app. If it is missing there too, it is genuinely gone.
Check the account and any blocks
If that person blocked you or switched their profile to private, you no longer see their posts, saved ones included. That is not a glitch, that is deliberate.
Do not confuse it with archive or drafts
A post from someone else that you saved is never in your archive and never in your drafts. Those hold only your own material.
What you can still rescue
The data export
Your Instagram data usually still holds the URL of the saved post. That does not bring the post back, but you can see which account it came from and go look there.
The account that posted it
A lot of creators post similar things more than once. The recipe or the place is often in a newer post or in their highlights again.
Your own screenshots
If you took a screenshot back then, you at least have the visible text. A name, an address, a price. That is usually enough to find the place again.
Your memory, seriously
The district, roughly what kind of food, what you wanted to eat there. With that you find the exact place again in Maps or a search surprisingly often.
This is why saving is not a backup
It works this way on Instagram, the same way on TikTok, and the same way for every bookmark in your browser. You save a pointer to something owned by someone else. That person can delete it at any time without asking you.
The fix is unspectacular and takes ten seconds: for a find that genuinely means something to you, write down the name and one line. “Café with the courtyard in Neubau, Lea wants to go, only open Saturdays.” That survives any deleted post.
